Gilas-Pilipinas is not looking only in this year’s FIBA World Cup and Asian Games, they are also looking at the future.

As college superstars Bobby Ray Parks Jr. and Kiefer Ravena could become formal inclusions to the cadet pool of the Philippine national men’s basketball team.

Gilas Pilipinas team manager Aboy Castro confirmed the development to

“Kiefer practiced with us a few weeks ago when his schedule permitted him to,” Castro said. “As for Ray-Ray, we’ve considered inviting him to practice with us, possibly after the All-Star break.”

Gilas coach Chot Reyes has convened a weekly practice for the squad every Monday, with PBA players forming the core of the pool that is preparing to compete in the FIBA Basketball World Cup in August and the Asian Games basketball tournament in September.

Both Parks and Ravena have represented the Philippines in the Southeast Asian Games.

Ravena plays for the Ateneo Blue Eagles, which like Gilas is bankrolled by Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas president Manuel V. Pangilinan.

Parks, a two-time Most Valuable Player in the UAAP for National University, recently signed a deal to join the NLEX Road Warriors, another club under the MVP Group of Companies, in the PBA D-League.

Parks joined other Gilas cadet members Kevin Alas, Matt Rosser, Jake Pascual, and Ronald Pascual on the team.

“It has always been the stand of companies under the MVP group to loan players needed for the national team,” said NLEX team manager Allan Gregorio.

With the Gilas outlook of the future, expect that the basketball program in the Philippines will not declined.
