Blackwater Sports is officially a PBA team starting in next season’s Governor’s Cup after the league approved their expansion bid.

And team owner Dioceldo Sy’s next move is to to build a competitive team in the pro league that could instantly compete with the elite teams.

Isaac is still the coach?

And the man behind cosmetics giant Ever Bilena’s first move is to bring a veteran tactician that can handle an organize PBA team.

With this, they want to bring coaches Leo Isaac and Leo Austria to run the new PBA club, which will join NLEX and Kia as expansions clubs next season.

“Coach Leo Isaac has been with us for a long time and he will continue coaching Blackwater,” Sy told in an exclusive interview.

“We might also bring in Leo Austria to help him out.”

Isaac, who previously coached Barako Bull in the PBA, led Blackwater to a championship in the PBA D-League last year.

Once a starter in Robert Jaworski’s vaunted Ginebra teams in the late ’80s, Isaac is known for taking underdog teams to championships in the commercial level.

A former assistant coach at Air 21 and Mobiline, he also won titles in the Philippine Basketball League and in several collegiate tournaments.

Austria’s help

Austria, on the other hand, is coming off an assistant coaching stint with Petron in the PBA.

A former head coach at Shell and Welcoat, the 1985 PBA Rookie of the Year also won championships in the PBL and the ASEAN Basketball League.

Sy already has a vision for the team he wants in the PBA.

“We want a young, defensive, run-and-gun type of squad,” said Sy. “We want to change the landscape of basketball in the PBA. Kasi ang sistema ng laro sa PBA, deliberate halfcourt. We want a fast-paced squad.”

And now, there will be no turning back for Blackwater Sports as they gear up for the next conference.
