Former PBA D-League MVP Allein Maliksi returns for San Mig to help them win a coveted Grand Slam

The San Mig Super Coffee Mixers are currently the hottest team in the PBA racking up three straight crown in the last three conferences and are aiming to build a dynasty in Asia’s first professional league.

But with how short the gap in each conferences, the Super Coffee Mixers are certainly tired and are looking for fresh legs who can give them quality minutes that can fill up the position when their stars are resting.

And San Mig will be very thankful with the return of two familiar faces who will help them in their conquest for a Grand Slam in the upcoming Governor’s Cup who will start on Sunday.

Reigning Best Import Marqus Blakely will be back for San Mig Coffee as reinforcement along with dependable wingman Allein Maliksi, who has missed the last two tournaments after injuring his knee in the Governors’ Cup last season.

“The good news is Marqus is here already. We all know how good Marqus is and we have Allein Maliksi coming back. That should give us a real lift into this next conference,” said San Mig Coffee coach Tim Cone.

Maliksi told in an exclusive interview that he has been gearing up for his return to the court.

“About doon, naisip ko na yun before pa sila manalo ng conference na ito. Nag-pe-prepare pa lang ako sa practice, naisip ko na agad kailangan kong paghandaan yung third conference,” said Maliksi, who admitted that the team’s quest for a Grand Slam is a daunting task.

“May pressure kasi may history kami na kailangan ma-achieve eh.”

But Maliksi knew that the burden will not only for him, it is also for his teammates.

“Hindi lang naman ako makakaramdam ng pressure. Buong team yan. Kinausap ko nga si Marqus. I told him there’s gonna be a lot of pressure on us. But we need to play better,” said Maliksi.

The former University of Santo Tomas high-flyer and former PBA D-League MVP revealed that he is in perfect health, but he still needs to get back into groove.

“OK na naman yung knee ko, ang ibinabalik ko lang yung timing, yung rhythm tsaka yung mga plays,” said Maliksi. “Nakakasabay na ako sa full practice pero kailangan ko yung game experience just to get the feel of the game.”

With the additions of Blakely and Maliksi, the chances for the Super Coffee Mixers to earn a Grand Slam will be much bigger.

But expect a tough challenge from the other nine teams who tapped reinforcements who have great credentials.
