Iloilo-Guimaras-Negros-Cebu Link Bridge Project to Push Through Under Pres. Duterte

The highly anticipated mega-project in the Visayas region, the Iloilo-Guimaras-Negros-Cebu Link Bridge Project will push through under the administration of Pres. Rody Duterte. During the press briefing with some members of the Duterte Cabinet, the DoTr announced that bridge project connecting major islands in the Visayas will be completed within three years.

Present during the press briefing were Presidential Communications (PCO) Sec. Martin Andanar, Transportation (DOTr) Sec. Arthur Tugade, Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Sec. Mark Villar, Socioeconomic Planning Sec. Ernesto Pernia, Presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abello, and BCDA Pres. and CEO Vince Dizon.

The Iloilo-Guimaras-Negros-Cebu Bridge Project is considered as one of the priority project of the Duterte administration based on their plans to Build, Build and Build vision for the Philippines. The Duterte admin promised to Build more railways, urban mass transport, airports and seaports. Build more bridges and roads and Build new and better cities.

Under the plans of building more Bridges and Roads, the Department of Public Works and Highways announced that they will be building the Iloilo-Guimaras-Negros-Cebu Link Bridge.

Aside from the above-mentioned major project in the Visayas region, the DPWH also plan to build the Santa Monica – Lawton – BGC Link Bridge, the UP-Miriam-Ateneo Viaduct, the Davao City Bypass Construction Project and to finish the on-going NLEX-SLEZ Connector Road.

In a separate report earlier by PhilStar, Iloilo Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr. and DPWH Sec. Mark Villar that the Iloilo-Guimaras Bridge Project confirmed to the media that the said project is now under a feasibility study, the first phase before the highly-anticipated construction of the bridge.

The DPWH Regional office in Region 6 also confirmed the Iloilo-Guimaras bridge project, the first phase of the 3-phase projects covers the bridge connecting Iloilo to Guimaras. The second phases is the Guimaras-Negros Bridge and third phase is the Negros-Cebu Bridge project.

There are reports also that the DPWH helped the Korean Export-Import Bank in conducting the feasibility for the proposed bridge project which is considered as one of Pres. Rody Duterte’s major infrastructure project at par with its Asian neighbors.
