President Rody Duterte is indeed true to his promise of serving the needy as he ordered the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to release P513.7-million in Emergency Shelter Aid (ESA) for families rendered homeless by Bagyong Nina.

The announcement of DSWD is another proof that the Duterte admin really cares for the victims of calamities unlike during the previous administrations wherein the Aquino admin failed to release the ESA immediately which even took years to accomplished.

DSWD announced that they will give P10,000 in assistance to each affected families whose house was partially damaged, and P30,000 to each family whose house was totally damaged.

Sec. Judy Taguiwalo of DSWD confirmed that they will release first an initial amount of P5,000 and release the rest of the amount after the DPWH assesses and validates the extent of damage on the houses.

The Duterte admin would need P4.35 billion to fund the ESA for some 248,242 households, Sec. Taguiwalo disclosed that she has already endorsed the department’s rehabilitation plan for the ESA to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) for funding.

The DSWD also reported that a total of P245.9 million worth of relief assistance has been provided to affected families of Bagyong Nina, with P228.4 million coming from DSWD, P6.1 million from LGUs and P11.4 million from NGOs.
