The tough-talking President of the Republic, Pres. Rody Duterte announced during a press conference after his second SONA that he will be recruiting around 35,000 fighters as counter-measures for his decision to end the peace talks with the communist rebels.
Pres. Duterte stated that he is moving for the recruitment of additional 20,000 soldiers and 10,000 to 15,000 police commandos or PNP-SAF as part of his moves to end the controversial peace talks with the Reds.
When the media asked the President if he is “categorically putting an end to negotiations with the left,” he answered “Yes.”
Pres. Duterte also noted that “I said I am bully to enemies of the state. So if you don’t want me, to talk to me, I do not want to talk to you and I do not want you. So ayaw ninyong makipag-usap, mas lalo na ako,” Pres. Duterte said during the press conference.
Adding a huge number of troops for the Philippine forces is the President’s counter-measure against the communists and he would star to call for a mobilization. Pres. Duterte noted that adding 20,000 fighting men is much needed because we have lost a considerable number of soldiers in Marawi.
During the press conference Pres. Duterte was quoted as saying “Then I will add about another 10 to 15,000 (police). But I want them SAF,” “I would need about 35 to 40,000 to meet the future threats coming our way from within and outside the country and I will start also to re-arm,” he said.
Despite the losses in Marawi City the President is confident enough that the government forces have learned a lot from it, because we got the experience on how to fight on a terrorist urban warfare.
The police and the military will be back to the drawing board to reconfigure and update their doctrines in wake of many casualties from the ongoing Marawi City battle which involves urban warfare.
