The tough-talking President of the Philippines, Pres. Rody Duterte ordered the dismissal of controversial Energy Regulatory Commission’s (ERC) Chairman Jose Vicente Salazar following charges of misconduct, neglect of duty, and other anomalies filed against him.

CEO and ERC Chairman Salazar was dismissed after being found “guilty of two counts of simple misconduct and one count of grave misconduct,” based on the order by the President dated October 6, signed Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea.

Based on the dismissal order the ERC Chairman committed “serious dishonesty, gross neglect of duty, and grave misconduct.”

The dismissal order stated that the ERC chairman was found guilty of grave misconduct after flouting bidding procedures over an audio-visual presentation project, particularly on favoring a production house he favored, Fatfree Inc.,

“All elements of corruption, clear intent to violate the law, and flagrant disregard of established rule have been sufficiently demonstrated,” said the dismissal order.

The former ERC Chairman was accused of anomaly by ERC director Francisco Jose “Jun” Villa Jr., the ERC official who committed suicide in November 2016. In an official statement released to the media, veteran broadcaster and sister of the late Jun Villa stated that “Jun can rest in peace now,” Villa said.
