TP: Will Ombudsman’s Weak Mamasapano Cases Provide PNoy Immunity?

Veteran blogger and popular social media personality Thinking Pinoy doubts the sincerity of Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales on the case filed against former President Benigno S. Aquino III in relation to the Mamasapano controversy which led to the untimely death of the 44 elite members of the PNP-SAF.

Thinking Pinoy cited an article posted by Inquirer that Aquino faces raps for usurpation of authority over Mamasapano mess and noted that the move was indeed surprising. Why is it surprising, TP revealed that Carpio-Morales has staunchly shown support for Aquino’s agenda.

The veteran blogger exposed that doubts on sincerity of Morales was due to the fact that there were two incidents involving Morales that he allegedly favors the Office of the Ombudsman.

During the year 2012 in the Conchita vs. Renato Corona case, Atty. Paula Defensor-Knack points out, Carpio-Morales agreed to provide hearsy testimony against then embattled Chief Justice Renato Corona when she testified about Corona’s alleged bank deposits. Morales supposedly received the information from a discovery of AMLC, so AMLC testified instead of Carpio-Morales. Morales, a retired Supreme Court associate justice, is fully aware of the hearsay rule.

In the year 2014, the Ombudsman filed graft charges vs. former Senators Juan Ponce Enrile, Bong Revilla, and Jinggoy Estrada, over their alleged involvement in Janet Lim-Napoles’ P10-billion Pork barrel (PDAF) Scam. They were subsequently detained in the PNP custodial center as the trial progresses.

Althouh TP did not comment on whether the three senators deserve what they went through, but what’s clear to me is that the Ombudsman clearly turned a blind eye on Liberal Party members and allies who are involved in the PDAF Scam.

Thinking Pinoy also noted that as what he mentioned earlier, the Philippines was shocked after it discovered that Carpio-Morales suddenly and uncharacteristically file cases Aquino. After so many years of protecting him, some doubters finally felt some sliver of hope that maybe, just maybe, this Ombudsman finally “saw the light.”

To cut the long story short, Ombudsman Carpio-Morales dismissed the homicide case, then recommended the filing of usurpation and graft cases against former Pres. Aquino.
