High ranking officials of the National Government under the leadership of Pres. Rody Duterte and top Cabinet officials attended the groundbreaking ceremony of the newest terminal of the Clark International Airport.
The project will improve the existing capacity of Clark International Airport, from the airport’s existing capacity of four million, the new passenger terminal would bring passengers annually to 12 million.
The P9.3 billion New Clark Internatioal Airport Terminal is expected to be finished by first quarter of 2020. The winning bidder of the said project is no other than the Megawide Construction Corportation and India’s GMR Infrastructure after winning the public bidding recently.
According GMR-Megawide Chief of Corporate Affairs Louie Ferrer, the project will generate more jobs in Central Luzon. He was quoted as saying “We’re looking at about 2,000 Filipino construction workers. And we’ll provide jobs also to engineers, suppliers in the region and even the Filipino financial institutions,” Ferrer said.
GMR-Megawide also stated that the Clark International Airport expansion project will have a 30-month project time.
The newest project under the Duterte administration is envisioned to be Asia’s next premier gateway, CRK is also expected to decongest the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), said BCDA in a statement.
The airport according to BCDA the said airport is one of the high impact projects under the Build Build Build Infrastructure Program, and complements Clark which is being developed as the next investment hub in Asia.
Present during the groundbreaking ceremony were former President and now Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez, Senators Dick Gordon and JV Ejercito, DOTr Sec. Arthur Tugade, BCDA President Vince Dizon, Clark Development Corp. (CDC) Chairman Ping De Jesus, CDC President-CEO Noel Manankil, and local officials led by Pampanga Governor Lilia Pineda.
