One of the country’s leading news tabloid, Hataw Tabloid released an expose on their website and on print media about the controversial 3,500 tons of gold allegedly smuggled by the Philippine government under the Liberal Party to Thailand.

According to the latest article posted online by Hataw, the advocacy group Lakap Bayan particularly one of their leader ex-Col. Allan John Marcellino questioned why the government’s Transnational-Anti Organized Intelligence Grouip (TAOC-IG) who confirmed earlier that there are concrete evidences and documents proving the existence of the smuggled 3,500 metric tons of gold were deposited in the “Bank of Bangkok” in Thailand are now silent on the said controversial issue.

As far as we could remember the controversial gold bar shipment to Thailand issue first surfaced during an exclusive interview on UNTV wherein Dr. Galma Arcilla the director of TAOG-IG revealed that the documents they were in position about the gold bar transactions were not fake and they were willing to prove their claim in any courts of law.

Dr. Arcilla was quoted as saying “Hindi puwedeng maging peke ‘yun dahil may mga central bank po tayo na nakatayo mismo riyan at nakahandang ibuyangyang (ibunyag) ‘yung lahat, lalo pa namin palalakasin at ibibigay pa namin ang mga ebidensiya rito.”

A case was already filed regarding the golds smuggled to Thailand against former Pres. Noynoy Aquino under the Office of the Ombudsman. Aside from Aquino the other respondents of the US$141 Billion worth of smuggled golds, were former DILG Sec. Mar Roxas, BSP Gov. Amanda Tetangco Jr., ex-Finance Sec. Cesar Purisima and Treasury Department Chief Dealer Lorelei Fernandez but the case at the Ombudsman are still pending and no preliminary investigation was conducted.

According to Dr.  he felt sorry for the status of the case and the way Malacanang’s lack of support with the controversial case. The TAOC-IG also noted that they are always ready to present evidence to the Anti-Graft and Corruption National Summit but they failed to do so.

Lakap Bayan leader, Col. Marcelino also confirmed that there’s something fishy with some members of the Duterte admin and the previous Aquino admin as they decided to have a compromise deal to kill the 3,500 metric tones issue for their own respective benefits.
