The fighting senator from the Philippines, Sen. Manny Pacquiao (60-7-3, 39 KOs) defeated the reigning Welterweight Champion of the Word Boxing Association (WBA) Lucas Matthysse (39-5, 36KOs) in a one-sided title bout in favor of the Filipino fighter winning via TKO in the 7th Round.

This is the first TKO victory of Manny Pacquiao on his entire career and became the first boxer who dropped the native of Argentina three times in the world title bout.

Lucas Matthysse was knocked down by Manny Pacquiao three times, including twice with an impressive uppercut firepower from the eight-division world record holder Pacquiao.

The last knocked down of Lucas Matthysse happened in the seventh round, which led to Matthysse’s camp throwing in the towel as what Matthysse did by himself and referee Kenny Bayless waved the fight off declaring Manny Pacquiao as the winner.

The victory of Manny Pacquiao against Matthysse in Malaysia is the first victory of the the Pambansang Kamao. His last stoppage happened during the year 2009, when he blasted Miguel Cotto in a scintillating performance.

The 39-year-old Manny Pacquiao wasn’t considered as an overwhelming favorite boxer against Matthysee, as he did come off a controversial loss to Jeff Horn in Australia. He also dropped longtime trainer Freddie Roach but Pacquiao really looked good during the fight.

Manny Pacquiao is now the WBA “regular” Welterweight Champion, which in the world of alphabet soup titles… really means nothing unless Keith Thurman vacates or is stripped of his belt.
