The Philippine National Police (PNP), through the National Headquarters and the Directorate for Police Community Relations issued a memorandum on Withdrawal of Assistance to “Ang Probinsyano.”

The PNP memorandum dated November 16, 2018 was addressed to all Regional Directors, PRO’s, Directors and NSU’s tackles the decision of the PNP National Headquarters to withdraw any support on ABS-CBN’s Teleserye “Ang Probinsyano.”

According to the memo, the PNP should withdraw any assistance, if there is any, in the production of the teleserye. The use of PNP facilities, vehicles and firearms, participation of some PNP personnel and shots of PNP offices and buildings in some segments of Ang Probinsyano.

The memo was released by the PNP after the initial steps undertaken by the authorities as they raised some issues regarding the portrayal of high ranking officials as corrupt, the improper wearing of PNP uniforms, portrayal of the rebel group “Vendetta” as hero while the PNP and the Presidential Security Group as villains.

Due to the failure of the dialogue conducted last October 17 and 23, 2018, between the PCRG, MTRCB and staff from the “Ang Probinsyano” teleserye to discuss the issues raised by the PNP.

The representative from the said teleserye promised to make the necessary corrections on the issues raised by the PNP in a week’s time. However, after more than two weeks, no visible correction was made. Instead the teleserye continue with daily wrongful portrayal of the PNP Officers as corrupt and ineffective, including the PNP Chief, the PNP and other high government officials.

While the PNP respects and recognizes the freedom of expression of writers, movie makers and actors in the development of their talents, the PNP also believe that this freedom is not without limit. The bad portrayal also creates confusion especially on the minds of the youth, who are viewing it.

The memo also noted that all units, officesand personnel are advised to immediately refrain from assisting, to withdraw their support to the production of the said teleserye in terms of PNP resources like patrol cars, firearms, personnel, venues and other items and gadgets being used in the teleserye.
