Pres. Duterte Absent During Bonifacio Day: Personally Attends the Case of Satur Ocampo

The camp of the tough-talking President of the Republic, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte revealed the reasons why the chief executive was absent during the Bonifacio Day celebration. According to some Palace officials, Pres. Duterte personally attends the case of Bayan Muna Rep. Satur Ocampo and Rep. France Castro.

Pres. Duterte failed to attend the 155-anniversary of Gat Andres Bonifacio in Caloocan City last Friday because of the fact that the President travelled to Mindanao to personally monitor the updates of the case being filed by the Talaingod Police to militant group leaders who were accused of kidnapping.

According to the statement released by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, Pres. Duterte is so concerned with the real situations of the minors who were allegedly kidnapped by the group of Satur Ocampo and that’s the reason why the President immediately returned to Davao.

The Palace official also noted that there will be no special treatment to the group of Ocampo, so the authorities will treat them as the usual alleged prisoners who committed crimes and if proven guilty should face the full force of the law.

Sec. Salvador Medialdea was quoted as saying “No special treatment kasi lumabag siya sa batas. Itatrato siya like any other na lumabag din sa batas,” according to Medialdea.

The Malacañang Palace assured the general public that they will always follow the rules and the due process of law in dealings with the case of Satur Ocampo and France Castro.

To prove that there is indeed due process of law in the case of Ocampo, the court handling their case gave the militant’s camp 10 days to process their counter-affidavit to raise their issues and prove that they were not involved in kidnapping of minors.

The Palace also advised the camp of Satur Ocampo not to sensationalize the issue and made some “circus” which could result to some propaganda against the government due to the arrest of Satur Ocampo and France Castro.

Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo also stated that the possible trial by publicity strategy of the Ocampo camp will not help in the recent case being faced by the progressive militant groups. The suspects should need to abide by the process and not to give any premature conclusion.
