According to Rep. Roberto Puno, one of the stalwarts of NUP and brother of former Interior Secretary Ronaldo Puno revealed that they wanted the two young leaders to lead the party.
In an interview with the media, Rep. Puno was quoted as saying “We would like him (Duterte) to do… the same as with Mayor Moreno,” Puno stated.
The leaders and members of the National Unity Party (NUP) are scheduled to have their general assembly wherein they will choose new setof officers after the successful campaign during the mid-term elections.
In the said general assembly the officers and leaders of NUP introduced the new breed of leaders headed by Davao City solon, Rep. Paolo Duterte and the most popular Mayor in the country today, Mayor Isko Moreno of Manila.
According to House Deputy Secretary-General Brian Yamsuan, deputy secretary-general of NUP stated that they are now studying of giving key position to Rep. Duterte as one of their honorary member.
The Deputy Secretary-General was quoted as saying “We will review our by-laws and look at it. Siguro, by tomorrow we will give specific answer on that,” said Yamsuan.
Former NUP President and re-elected Capiz Rep. Fredenil Castro for his part stated “There is a good possibility, Pres. Rody Duterte’s eldest son may succeed him as the president of the party-and he don’t think, there is any violation of the party charter,” Rep. Castro said.
There is also a huge possibility that Rep. Paolo Duterte will become a full fledge NUP member although he came from his local party, Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod, a party he helped formed in Davao City.
Once Rep. Duterte will become full member of NUP, there is a possibility that he will bring with him at least 30 partymates from the ruling PDP-Laban Party of Pres. Rody Duterte.
