Gilas coach Tab Baldwin didn’t take too kindly to South Korea head coach Co Sang Hyun’s description of SJ Belangel’s three-pointer during their first meeting wherein they defeated the professionally-laden South Korean team in the third window of the qualifiers.
The young guns of the Philippines stunned the professional national basketball team from South Korea after they defeated the Koreans with an 81-78 stunner over the country’s long time tormentors in the FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers.
This is the second victory of the Philippines against Korea after eight years of being tormented by the Koreans.
Gilas Pilipinas got another one over South Korea, with an impressive 82-77 finished in the highly anticipated 2021 FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers with a perfect record today, with the games held at the Angeles University Foundation Gym in Clark, Pampanga.
The Gilas Pilipinas national team being manned by youngsters and amateurs wrapped up it campaign 6-0 slate while South Korea finished with a 4-2 card in Group A. The Fiba Asia Cup is set from Aug. 16 to 28 in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Dwight Ramos leads the Gilas Pilipinas squadd with 19 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals followed by Kai Sotto with 10 points, 7 rebounds, while RJ Abarrientos and Jordan Heading also scored with 10 points apiece.
Naturalized player Runa RA topscored for the South Koreans with 20 points and 13 rebounds while veteran local Korean players Hyunjung Lee and Hongseok Yang scored with 13 and 12 points respectively.
