Gilas Pilipinas Line-up Features Brownlee & Kouame:

The Philippine national basketball team, Gilas Pilipinas line-up, features some of the most prominent names in the professional basketball scene in the country, including the likes of Ange Kouame and Justin Brownlee.

According to the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP), seven of the players who saw action in the recently concluded FIBA World Cup 2023 in Manila, Philippines, are on the Team Philippines’ official roster alongside the best of the best from the Philippines in 39 sports disciplines.

The 12th Asian Games, or ASIAD, is hosted by Hangzhou, China, and the Games will start this coming September 23, 2023. Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) President Rep. Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino confirmed the line-up of Gilas Pilipinas. However, the Entry of Names (EBN) deadline for the Asia Games lapsed last July 25, 2023.

Tolentino also noted that whatever the list they submitted is deemed official, and any revision made should be appealed before the Hangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee.

In the official list of Gilas Pilipinas line-up, the organizers also revealed that they listed Chot Reyes and Tim Cone as head coach and assistant coach. However, it is expected to change before the announcement of Reyes’ resignation from the national team. Gilas Pilipinas lineup is also expected to face similar revisions.

The POC also noted that Justin Brownlee and Ange Kouame are naturalized players for the Philippines. Still, they are both eligible to play for the Gilas Pilipinas squad in the Asian Games.

The SBP also listed World Cup veterans Kiefer Ravena, Scottie Thompson, Roger Pogoy, June Mar Fajardo, CJ Perez, Japeth Aguilar, and Jamie Malonzo. Aside from these veteran PBA players, also in the Gilas squad are Chris Newsome, Calvin Oftana, and Brandon Rosser, who were part of the original Gilas pool before it was cut to the Final 12.

Meanwhile, other prominent names are not included in the submitted line-up for the Gilas squad, like Dwight Ramos, Rhenz Abando, Kai Sotto, naturalized player Jordan Clarkson, and AJ Edu.

Dwight Ramos, AJ Edu, Thirdy Ravena, and Ray Parks have confirmed they are returning to their Japan B. League’s mother teams after the World Cup 2023 in Manila. Jamie Malonzo will not be available for Gilas service because he hurt his back after a bad fall in a game against South Sudan and even sat out of Gilas’ final match against China.

The Philippine Basketball Association and the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) have scheduled a press conference this Thursday to officially announce the Gilas Pilipinas line-up for the highly anticipated Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.
