Hive Collaboration with JJSNHS for Possible School Supplies Provision
Representatives from the Hive community in Davao City and members of the DBuzz team visited a public high school in Davao City for a possible educational activity collaboration in coordination with the Davao DeFi Community, a group of Web3 volunteer educators in the Philippines.
DBuzz Founder Chris Rice and independent journalist Ed Umbao from PhilNews.XYZ and Rubz Comms from the Davao DeFi Community (DDC) visited the Jesus J. Soriano National High School (JJSNHS) located in Barangay Catalunan Grande in Davao City, Davao del Sur for a possible project with the school’s administration, the students and the entire educational community.
Rubz Coms, the founder of DDC, arranged the meeting with JJSNHS administration headed by school principal Ma’am Emy B. Goc-Ong, Doctor of Education (EdD), and some members of her administrative staff. The scheduled meeting occurred last August 11, 2023.
Attending the said meeting were Principal Emy Goc-ong, JJSNHS Officer-in-Charge Mr. Tranquilino Velasco Jr., Adopt-A-School Coordinator Ma’am Jenalyn A. Molina, Rubz Comms from DDC, Chris Rice from Hive and Ed Umbao from PhilNews.xyz.
Discussions During the Meeting Between Hive & JJSNHS:
Hive Representative and DBuzz Founder Chris Rice presented the initiative made by the Hive community in Ghana, Africa, collaborating with the community for their successful Hive Borehole Project in Ghana, that have already constructed ten (10) boreholes to address the challenge of accessing clean drinking water in Africa.
Principal Goc-ong was so delighted with the positive news brought about by the Hive community in Africa, and they are looking forward to the possibility of being chosen as one of the beneficiaries for a future project with Hive to empower the communities and students of her school.
Discussions During the Meeting Between Hive & JJSNHS:
During the discussion, Chris Rice presented an idea on how to possibly help the students studying at the Jesus J. Soriano National High School with their primary needs regarding school supplies. He asked for some data from the school administration regarding the number of students, the status of their parents, and the immediate needs, such as school supplies, that Chris Rice would be willing to pitch to the Hive stakeholders for possible collaborations for funding.
Ma’am Goc-ong provided some data about the students, the school, and the challenges they face during classes, especially for the needs of the students living in a family earning less than a dollar a day.
Mr. Velasco, on his part, was also looking for a possibility to have an educational collaboration with the Hive Team in Davao City and the developers working for DBuzz to conduct some activities regarding Programming, Coding, and some talks to update their students with regards to some technological advancements in the fields of the internet and Web3.
The JJSNHS administrative staff headed by their principal also provided a tour of the campus and their Computer Laboratory as the Hive Team from Davao City, together with the DDC, inspected some of their facilities and to have some plans on how they can work hand in hand for the benefits of the students from the said public school.
The meeting between Jesus J. Soriano National High School, the DDC, Hive Team from Davao City, and the independent media team PhilNews.xyz was so successful as they were able to come up with a list of possible school supplies to be given to the school and the possibility of students and teachers mentorship to be spearheaded by the DBuzz developers soon.
Chris Rice told Ed Umbao from PhilNews.xyz that he will present to the Hive Community stakeholders the possibility of providing school supplies to the public educational institution Jose J. Soriano National High School in Davao City.
