Hive DApps Latest Developments and Future Plans

A Hive Community Townhall was successfully conducted last November 1, featuring most of the founders of Hive DApps sharing the latest developments from their projects and their plans for the future. The Hive Community Town Hall meeting was hosted by Eric F Na , 0xNifty.nft , and Jongo!.

The organizers of the town hall, as well as the host of the Twitter Space, claimed that it was not the official town hall meeting for all the Hive DApps but only a meeting of the community. The talk pertains to the Hive community itself and what’s going on with the different DApps, such as how the Hive frontends are doing and what the plans are for the community. The community could get involved by asking questions.

This town hall happened in the past, but for the past few years, the organizers realized that there’s no such initiative like this one, so they decided to pursue the second Hive Community Town Hall.

The hosts of the Hive Community Town Hall just gave a quick overview of the event. According to the organizers, Town Hall is a new community-based witness for Hive launched by Eric F Na, Jongolson, and Task Master. Aside from being a witness, Eric stated that they decided to try an idea to bring together the community members, founders, builders, and anyone who has a say on things together.

The Town Hall gathered Hive community members and builders to share their thoughts, opinions, and updates on what they are working on. And if somebody had questions, they could ask the founders directly. The event brought the Hive community together, helping make Hive a better place for everyone by encouraging collaboration, ultimately bringing more people – not just DApps – to the Hive ecosystem.

The Hive Community Town Hall started after 15 minutes of introduction as they presented the founders and builders – the people behind all the DApps within the Hive ecosystem. The reporting of the latest developments from respective DApps on Hive was presented alphabetically.

The first one to speak regarding the latest developments on their DApps was MacFarhad, the founder of the move-to-earn Hive DApp which is Actifit.

Actifit Background and Updates

MacFarhad introduced Actifit on what it is and what it does on Hive. Actifit was one of the first few DApps built on Steem before Hive came to life.

Actifit started in 2018. It is basically a tool for fitness, a mechanism to incentivize people to live healthier. The DApp is what became known as the move-to-earn initiative long before the move-to-earn got hyped last year and probably again in the near term.

According to Actifit, they wanted to develop something pretty neat and built on the core of Hive that would push people to move and track their fitness steps.

Actifit noted that whether you’re walking, running, at the gym, or doing basically anything as long as it involves movement, you earn tokens which you can exchange for rewards.

They wanted to push people to keep doing that and help maintain a healthy lifestyle. That’s how Actifit came to exist. And with the whole social ecosystem built on Hive, it was the perfect match from their perspective, and ever since, they’ve been building and growing for the last five or six years.

DBuzz Short History, Developments & Plans

According to Chris Rice, one of the founders of DBuzz, along with Nathan Senn, they launched the platform shortly after the fork from Steem to Hive. The microblogging platform is one of the first projects to launch on the new chain and the first microblogging platform on Hive.

The DBuzz founder noted that they make it accessible where users can have an alternative to traditional Web2 social media, where the feeds are rigged or aren’t organic, As an example, if you have 10,000 followers on those platforms, only about 1,000 to 3,000 of those followers will see your posts.

DBuzz offers an alternative with natural and organic feeds, and one of their value propositions is that it’s healthier to have organic feeds and organic conversations that aren’t rigged by proprietary algorithms that choose what is displayed on the feeds.

Chris Rice also announced that they will launch a long-form version of their platform later this month, and are working towards including a Dex (Decentralized Exchange) and a chat service this year.

LikeTu Updates

Elmer from LikeTu was so grateful for allowing him to join the Town Hall for the first time. He stated that it’s amazing that everyone is present, and he thinks that it’s an excellent opportunity for all of the Hive DApps to collaborate, set aside differences, and figure out ways that they can move forward together as a community.

In terms of what LikeTu is doing, they’ve been working on reinforcing the short-form content platform, and he thinks we’re paving the way for that style of content on Hive. Other frontends on Hive are now doing very similar things.

The founder of LikeTu, however, noted that they are all about the visual short-form format. Now, to enhance the experience of LikeTu users, they’ve added a couple of other on-chain things, such as on-chain likes.

These don’t affect rewards, but they are an essential signal for everyone; just as you know, likes are on regular social media, but the ones on LikeTu will be different because they’re going to use some on-chain measurements, such as centrality – to help figure out how much of an influence you have on the network as a whole.

The LikeTu Founder noted that he’s excited about this development because it means that all DApps are able to use this model, and they will be able to work out the reputation scores that the LikeTu DApp is doing right now. It could be used as a signal to figure out how to vote, so even if you’re a large stakeholder and you don’t know who to vote for, this new reputation system will help in a big way.

LikeTu is also excited to bring out other short-form formats, and they’re looking at various shorts, short-form videos, and voice notes or something similar in the future.

PeakD Updates

Jarvey Charlie, the founder of PeakD, which is probably the longest-standing Hive DApp, is a content-writing platform with access to communities, and plenty of Web3 features like wallets and key features.

According to Jarvie, perhaps one of the most interesting things is the Open Projects, which helped Hive developers in the community that have come over. They helped coordinate their efforts to create decentralized tools that work for all of the UIs that are on Hive. It’s like a group project amongst the Hive community.

Examples of these UIs are chat and polling systems, a blockchain explorer for Hive since it forked from Steem and a bunch of other features that they’ve been working on with a bunch of Hive developers.

inLeo Updates

Khal from inLeo represented their Dapp in the Town Hall where he introduced his platform.

inLeo is a microblogging platform on Hive – that’s a big niche that they’ve gone after. More recently, they have focused on the Everything app, and apart from microblogging, they named Threads and long-form article writing, they’re aiming to build long-form and short-form video sharing, too. They’re building out a creative economy that enables anybody to come in and make a brand and monetize themselves with Web3.

inLeo noted that one of the critical pieces for Hive to grow is making the onboarding process seamless and allowing people to come in and join in under 30 seconds and use the blockchain.

The DApp claims that they’ve made it a key focus for themselves to be on top of onboarding, going after creators and audience members. The inLeo team stated that their Key Performance Indicator is how many people they onboarded to Hive
