Hive DApps Updates During Town Hall

One of the most important things being discussed during the Hive Town Hall Meeting are the user onboarding and retention problems within the Hive Blockchain. According to Eric, the host of the Hive Town Hall meeting, the more we use numbers in our favor, the more we will be able to onboard and retain more people.

Eric also pointed out that retention is a significant challenge on Hive and every other Web3 platform. He explained that despite having a highly enthusiastic user base in the cryptocurrency space, many users tend to shift their attention to the latest trends. Hive has been an established community for seven years and a blockchain for three and a half years.

Therefore, addressing the challenges of attracting and keeping users engaged is crucial. Hive must prioritize two key aspects: developing effective strategies and fostering collaboration within the blockchain community to achieve mainstream success and realize its full potential.

The host proceeded to inquire about the vision of various Hive DApps regarding the Hive blockchain’s development in the upcoming five years, the strategies they intend to employ to sustain growth, and the best practices they can share for other frontends to adopt or learn from. In essence, each DApp founder was encouraged to share their plans for advancing Hive’s growth in the next half-decade with the broader community.

Mcfarhat Updates on Actifit

Mcfarhat emphasized that collaboration and integration within the Hive ecosystem are essential for growth and success. That’s why they’re essentially move-to-earn projects, as they want people to move and expand their vision for Actifit so that their platform can be utilized as entry points for other Hive DApps.

Actifit’s interface exposes users to the broader Hive ecosystem, where fitness VR enthusiasts can discover 3Speak videos and InLeo articles content on the Actifit Explore page.

They have also partnered with OCD to enhance user rewards, incorporating Hive Engine into both platforms to provide users with insights into their rewards. Actifit users earn rewards in tokens like LEO, creating awareness of Hive’s multifaceted platform.

Chris Rice from DBuzz

Chris Rice, the founder of DBuzz, acknowledges that predicting Hive’s future is challenging due to its dynamic nature. He highlights the vast array of activities happening on Hive, even within top DApps, making it impossible to foresee its evolution fully.

Regarding DBuzz’s strategy, Chris explains a shift in focus. They emphasize two key aspects: business development and education. DBuzz is actively onboarding investors to purchase HIVE and HBD, with over half of the HBD they received from the DHF (Decentralized Hive Fund) sold to an investor they brought in instead of selling it on the market. Moreover, DBuzz collaborates with educational institutions, targeting high schools and colleges. They aim to establish educational hubs within schools, effectively creating “Hive schools” without the need for physical infrastructure.

The host appreciates DBuzz’s efforts, highlighting their data and marketing initiatives in Asia, particularly in the Philippines which have garnered significant attention in news coverage.

Good Karma from Ecency

Before Good Karma’s statement, the host praised Ecency for its simplicity and user-friendliness, particularly in handling long-form content, which is its primary appeal. While Ecency initially focused on long-form content, it also began offering Waves and Decks. Decks are a consolidated platform for managing various short-form content platforms akin to TweetDeck. It features a microblogging capability, allowing users to share ideas in concise posts of fewer than 255 characters. Decks are open-sourced, allowing others to utilize its code to create their frontends swiftly.

The host mentioned that Good Karma, a Hive user and witness of six to seven years, has been actively involved in developing a user-friendly frontend. He initially collaborated with the Ecency Team and later introduced a mobile app that caters to Hive’s user base, making content creation more accessible from mobile devices. Good Karma expressed gratitude for the recognition from Eric, the Town Hall host, and noted the event’s resemblance to a continuation of HiveFest in some aspects.

Grampo from Waivio

Waivio, conceived initially as a frontend to enhance functionality, has now shifted its primary focus to what they call “social shopping” on the Hive blockchain. This concept aims to introduce a new dimension to Hive, offering an open space for Web3 data storage.

Waivio enables users to store information about products and build online shops. Users can add products to their profiles, essentially creating their shops. They’ve also developed a Chrome extension called “Wave” that simplifies product uploads to the blockchain. Users can upload products from online retailers like Amazon or Walmart and integrate affiliate codes for earnings.

Recently, Waivio expanded its offerings by allowing users to launch shops within their profiles and as separate websites with custom domain names. This shift enhances search engine optimization and opens opportunities for Adsense integration. The unique aspect of Waivio’s shop concept is that users don’t need to maintain inventory, process payments, or handle customer support.

Their responsibility is to curate and recommend products. The creator of Waivio envisions a future where anyone worldwide can create an online shop effortlessly and earn income without needing inventory. When discussing the roadmap for Hive, the focus is on blockchain onboarding and retention, acknowledging the unpredictability of the future but emphasizing the importance of having a structured approach.

Khaleelkazi from inLeo, formerly LeoFinance

Khal, representing LeoFinance, breaks down Hive’s growth into three key categories: investors/business owners, entrepreneurs, and users/developers.

Hive’s next five years should focus on generating interest from these categories. While the current emphasis has been on users understanding Hive, acquiring Hive keys, and creating content, Khal sees the future defined by attracting investors, entrepreneurs, and developers to build on the blockchain. Drawing parallels with thriving ecosystems like Ethereum, he highlights the importance of a robust developer and business community to drive user adoption.

Khal believes that Hive’s uniqueness, including the Decentralized Hive Fund (DHF) and user-friendly toolkits, must be utilized more. He sees the next five years as an opportunity to engage those interested in business, investment, and development in Web3, showcasing the potential of Hive’s tools.

Eric, the Town Hall host, agrees, noting the existing community of active content creators and the need for collective efforts among DApps and the broader community to achieve mass adoption, something Hive has been working towards for seven years.

Elmerlin from LikeTu

Elmer, representing LikeTu, shared their plans for the next five years and their approach to attracting more users to Hive. LikeTu’s ethos revolves around giving value back to its users, and they take this responsibility seriously. Elmer’s daily role involves figuring out how to distribute resources and value effectively to benefit participants.

A central theme at LikeTu is developing an on-chain reputation system using “likes” as signals. This approach allows them to allocate resources to make limited resources appear abundant.

They believe that, much like in a supermarket where products seem abundant due to efficient free markets, a transparent blockchain like Hive enables them to capture these signals and make better decisions regarding the allocation of value. Elmer envisions leveraging the power of Hive’s existing protocol, which includes a built-in attention economy, over the next five years, making it even more potent.

Jarvie from PeakD

Over the next five years, it’s essential to recognize that Hive has attracted many creators and a vast audience, numbering in the seven figures. Many viewers come from various sources, including Google searches and websites connected to the extensive content created on various Hive DApps. To further expand, the focus is on attracting and retaining more creators, but it’s worth noting that numerous users also engage in gaming. Hive boasts diverse user interfaces and games, with Splinterlands being a massive game with tens of thousands of users.

The measure of success for Hive should be the proliferation of projects built on the platform. This project includes having more than a dozen highly active games and expanding the scope of Peak open projects, which are open-source initiatives developed by members of the Hive community.

Eight developers are working on at least five projects to improve user interfaces. The goal is to see the number of projects and their scale grow significantly. While some groups chase funding on other blockchains without a clear vision or appropriate tools, Hive is an ecosystem with the necessary capabilities. Many blockchain projects have reached out to Hive, realizing they need more of what it can offer. Hive envisions attracting those who aim to build thriving communities rather than seeking quick profits.

One goal is to integrate decentralized chat across various sites to enable cross-platform communication. Projects like Hive Statistics, which are open-source, should find diverse applications. Additionally, there’s a push towards decentralization, with efforts to use one wallet extension for actions on different sites already in testing.

Hive’s direction emphasizes decentralization as a fundamental principle. While there’s potential for exciting backend developments like block trades, AJ’s system, and smart contracts, these are currently uncertain.

The focus is on leveraging the already impressive capabilities of the current system to build a thriving ecosystem. Initiatives like this Town Hall are vital in connecting project creators and businesses within the Hive community, fostering collaboration and growth. Furthermore, efforts are underway to develop a decentralized method for polling and voting that can be used across various sites, enhancing interaction and soft consensus.
