IC Meetup BUIDL Camp Conduced by ICP and DDC

The world’s first web-speed, internet-scale public blockchain, developed by the DFINITY Foundation, Internet Computer Protocol visited the City of Davao for the highly anticipated and first-ever IC Meetup BUIDL Camp in coordination with the Davao DeFi Community, one of Mindanao’s most prominent Web3 community.

Representatives from ICP.Hub Philippines, the official Internet Computer Protocol Hub in the Philippines, headed by co-founder Nelson Lumbres, graced the event alongside veteran smart contract coder and CEO of DvCode Technologies Incorporated.

The event was held at the Bajada Suites in J.P. Laurel Avenue, Davao City, on Saturday, November 18, 2023, from 08:00 to 10:00 PM. The meetup focused on understanding the basics and beyond of cryptocurrency, followed by the THINK Hackathon in the afternoon.

IC Meetup BUIDL Camp started with a welcome address from Romeo L. Castañaga, DTI 11 Assistant Regional Director, followed by opening remarks from Ruben Lacumba, Founder of Davao DeFi Community, and an introduction from the co-founder of ICP Hub Philippines, Mr. Nelson Lumbres.

TEDx speaker, smart contract, and blockchain investigator Fafa Ferds presented blockchain’s history and basics.

Mr. Francis Albores, CEO of Alreno IT Solutions, Senior Web Developer, Web Designer, and Project Manager, shared an inspirational talk from a passionate innovator.

After the inspirational talk from Mr. Albores, a Web3 onboarding session was initiated by a Web developer, graphic artist, and community manager at Davao DeFi Community, Mr. Jurris Leuwe Tolosa.

The former president of DEVCON Davao and the current VP for Technology of DEVCON Philippines, Mr. Jaymar Somosot, shared some messages from the developer community about the latest developments.

Qitmeer/DimAi Brand Ambassador Liezel P. Baliguat organized an NFT onboarding session, and she was followed by a message from UP Mindanao Representative Cinmayila A. Garillos-Manliquez, Ph.D. She is an Assistant Professor 7, Department Chair – Department of Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science from the Assistant Professor 7, Department Chair – Department of Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science from the University of the Philippines UP Mindanao.

Panel Discussions

Panel discussions followed in the afternoon, with different speakers sharing their ideas and insights about the latest cryptocurrency trends, Web3, NFT, DeFi, and other topics relevant to the day’s discussions.

The first speakers batch comprised Francis Albores, Fafa Ferds, Mark Manansala, Juliane Indiongco, and Vince Jebryl Montero.

The second batch of speakers includes Dioman Madulara, CTO and Founder of Mugna Tech | DEVCON, Kenneth James Berey, founder of Blockchain Network Philippines and Web3 Connect Philippines, and Liam James Mendoza, the co-founder and community lead of DICE.

The panel discussion was moderated by one of Mindanao’s after-sought hosts and President of the Young Entrepreneurship Society YES from the prestigious educational institution, the Ateneo de Davao University.

After the panel discussions, ICP representatives Mr. Nelson Lumbres and Elie Rabadon discussed the 2023 IC Buildl Camp Batch 2 guidelines, wherein the ICP could empower student developers to innovate.

The IC Meetup/BUIDL Camp is powered by the Davao DeFi Community (DDC) and PDAX. It is supported by Bitskwela, NFT Davao, DEVCON, DICE, DTI, Kave Guild, and IT MEER.

The event was also supported by some of the most prominent universities within Davao City and nearby areas, such as the Ateneo De Davao University, the University of Mindanao, Mapua Institute of Technology, and the AMA Computer College, to name a few.
