Sinulog 2024 Schedule Release by Sinulog Foundation Inc.
The organizers of the Sinulog Festival 2024 in Cebu City, the Sinulog Foundation Inc., released the official schedule of the Sinulog sa Sugbo Philippines 2024 has been released to the public.
Based upon the Sinulog 2024 Schedule of Activities, the highly anticipated fiesta in Cebu City will kick off with the Sinulog Fun Run on January 6, 2023, while the Sinulog Grand Launching will occur on January 12, 2024.
The organizers also announced that the Sinulog sa Kabataan sa Lalawigan and the Sinulog sa Kabataan sa Dakbayan, which were not conducted last year, will be back in their original setup.
Sinulog Foundation Incorporated revealed that the Sinulog sa Lalawigan edition is set on January 13, while the Sinulog sa Kabataan sa Dakbayan will be on January 14, 2024.
What is the Sinulog Festival
The Sinulog Festival in Cebu City is one of the most famous festivals in the Philippines. It will be held every third Sunday of January.
The Sinulog Festival 2024 falls on January 21. During that time, the Grand Parade will be held, as well as the Grand Ritual Showdown or the highlights of the Sinulog Festival.
The festival is mainly the Cebuano’s way of celebrating the fiesta of Senior Santo Niño de Cebu (Child Jesus of Cebu), a statue of baby Jesus that Portuguese-born Spanish explorer Ferdinand Magellan gave to the leaders of Cebu Queen Juana and Rajah Humabon of Cebu in 1521.
According to history, Sinulog means “graceful dance,” which started in 1980 with a simple back-and-forth movement representing the “slog” (current) of a river in Cebu.
The Cebuano word “Sinulog” came from the adverb “sulog,” which means “like water current movement.” It describes the forward-backward Sinulog dance steps, which could be done by doing two steps forward and one-step backward movements.
Sinulog 2024 Venue
According to the organizers of the Sinulog 2024, the main activities will take place at the Cebu South Road Properties (SRP). The Grand Parade starts at the Cube Wing at SM Seaside on January 21, while the Grand Ritual Showdown follows at the SRP grounds.
During the Sinulog Grand Parade, the visitors and audience will witness street dancers clad in extravagant and colorful costumes dancing to the tune of the Sinulog music.
There are some debates regarding the venue of the Sinulog 2024, but Cebu City Mayor Michael insists that it will be held at SRP. The Sinulog Festival route was usually conducted along the major thoroughfares of downtown Cebu City, mainly along Gen. Maxilom Avenue, Fuente Osmeña Circle, Jones Avenue, and Osmeña Boulevard.
