Former PDEA Chief turned Customs Commissioner Isidro Lapeña confirmed during a speech in Davao City that a total of 641 Bureau of Customs (BoC) officials and employees started October 2017 due to corruption and other corrupt practices inside the once most corrupt agency in the country.

According to Commissioner Lapeña, the BoC has been among the worst and most corrupt agencies in government during the past few years, an image that Lapeña wants to change under his leadership and under the watchful eyes of Pres. Rody Duterte.

The 641 sacked officials and BoC employees reflect how massive corruption has eaten up the agency personnel during the previous years.

Commissioner Lapeña emphasized during his speech that firing corrupt officials, and employees is a process, “We must follow an internal procedure, we have to follow procedures because the Civil Service law covers some of them, but those who have been identified and caught red-handed – must bid goodbye,” Lapeña emphasized.

The former PDEA chief, Gen. Isidro Lapeña, whose image in Davao Region was never tainted with corruption until his retirement as a police general, revealed that he is not yet convinced that his agency is clean as of now as he said he can still sniff corrupt practices among his people.

Commissioner Lapeña, one of the most trusted generals of Pres. Duterte also noted that terminating and erring Customs officials and personnel is not enough. He said, “I will be filing administrative complaint or dismissal from service,” he stressed.
