Nesthy Petecio Advances to Gold Medal Match, Thanks All Pinoy Supporters

One of the country’s remaining bets to bring home the gold, Nesthy Petecio is now assured of Olympic Silver Medal and on her way to duplicating the achievement made by weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz as she advanced to the gold medals match after defeating Irma Testa of Italy in the semis of women’s featherweight division.

Nesthy Petecio defeated her Italian rival via a split decision, 4-1, in favor of the Filipina boxer from Mindanao. She secured the first round with a 10-9 scorecard from all five competition judges. 

During the second round of the Olympic boxing event, Petecio went more aggressive on her offense and scored a 10-9 on the scorecard, with only one judge favoring Testa.

Nesthy Petecio is now waiting for the other semi-final boxing match winner between Sena Irie of Japan and Karriss Artingstall of Great Britain.

After the victory of Neshty Petecio against the Italian boxer, she showed how grateful she was for the support of the Filipino community and even the Philippine Senate through a video posted on social media.

Meanwhile, the other two Filipino boxers competing for the elusive Olympic gold medals are still in their respective divisions’ quarterfinal stage.

The two Filipino boxers vying for their respective Olympic medals are Eumir Marcial and Carlo Paalam.

The Filipino amateur boxer made a name for herself after winning a gold medal at the 2019 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships before competing at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. 

Nesthy Petecio is rated world number 2 in the Women’s 57 Kilogram category by the Amateur International Boxing Association.
