Bull or Bear: Cebu (A Debate of Web3 Adoption in the Philippines)

The highly anticipated Bull or Bear Cebu will feature Web3, the New Internet, and its adoption in the Philippine settings. The leading education platform in the Philippines, Bitskwela, brings it to us. The debate will be held on July 17, 2023, at the Ayala Malls Central Bloc, Cebu Business Park, Barangay Luz, Cebu City.

Bitskwela will showcase the grand debate in Cebu City after the successful side event conducted last June, first with a Twitter Space held last June 9, followed by a debate over NFT (Non-Fungible Token) and Fine arts last June 16, 2023, at the Imahica Art Gallery in Mandaluyong City, Metro Manila.

Bull or Bear Cebu will discuss issues about the third generation of the World Wide Web, which is called Web3. The organizers will showcase thought leaders and industry experts within the Web2 and Web3 space in discussing issues on cryptocurrencies, Web3, and related topics.

Bull or Bear Cebu

The fourth run of the widely known Bull or Bear event initiated by Bitskwela featured a different format than the previous three debates, and the organizers announced those changes through their official social media accounts.

What is Web3:

According to Jiro Reyes, Bitskwela’s CEO, during an online discussion for the ICT Conference 2023 National ICT Month, “Web3 is the decentralized internet, it is an ownership economy, and Web3 is an internet that uses crypto.”

The Harvard Business Review described Web3 as the future of the internet. This new, blockchain-based Web includes cryptocurrencies, NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens), DAOs (Decentralized Autonomous Organizations), DeFi (Decentralized Finance), and many more. It offers read, write, and own versions of the Web.

Polkadot Founder and Ethereum Co-Founder Gavin Wood coined the word Web3 in 2014, and the idea gained interest among cryptocurrency enthusiasts, technology companies, and venture capital firms.

Bull or Bear: Philippine Web3 Debate Cebu Edition

The debate on Web3 adoption in the Philippines will feature some of the most prominent names in the Web3 space in the Philippines, such as Nathan Senn, a veteran blockchain developer and D.Buzz co-founder, Donald Lim from Blockchain Council of the Philippines, Astley Sandoval, a creative entrepreneur, Giu Comia from Tekkon, Tyrone Bretana from Tier One Alliance, and Coach Miranda Miner from Global Miranda Miner Group.

The Philippines’ premier Web3 debate, Bull or Bear Cebu, will be moderated by Kish Morales of Women in Blockchain Philippines. There are also special messages from prominent government personalities such as DICT Director Emmy Delfin, DICT Cebu Engineer Royden Rusiana, and Cebu City South District Representative Eduardo “Edu” Rama.

Bitskwela revealed that the Cebu edition and the next edition of Bull or Bear would be implemented with a new set of mechanics for debaters. The organizer will implement new rules and Debate format for the Bull or Bear Cebu event.

Unlike the previous debates, the debaters will be free to choose their bullish or bearish stance with certain aspects of the Web3 industry. The new format indicates that only two predetermined debaters may answer the moderator’s prompt in a minute or less.

Other debaters or members of the panels will also be able to state their stance but will be given only 30 seconds to stress their reasons. Aside from that, an open discussion will allow the debater to question the other debater’s arguments.
