Philippine Web3 Debate (Bull or Bear) The New Internet by Bitskwela

The Bull or Bear Debate in Cebu City to discuss the Philippine Web3 scene was a huge success, according to the organizers, Bitskwela, an Educational Technology platform. The successful event was held at the Ayala Malls, Central Bloc, Cebu IT Park, Cebu City, on July 15, 2023.

Bull or Bear Web3 debate and presentation started at around 5:00 PM with the usual portion of offering prayer and singing the Philippine National Anthem before the discussions began showcasing some prominent speakers from Web2 and Web3 space.

Some of the prominent speakers before the debate proper included DICT Director IV Emmy Lou Delfin, Bitskwela contributor Aaron Lay, and Miss Raine LaLuna from Sphera Solutions as part of the introduction of the Web3 scene not only in Cebu but also in the entire Philippines.

Keynote Speeches:

Bitskwela also made some preparations for a Keynote Speech from all the major sponsors of the Bull or Bear Cebu event. The major sponsors included Hive and DBuzz, BitGet, Tekkon, and CoinW.

Nathan Senn, a self-taught coder, Hive representative, and DBuzz co-founder, was the first to be called on stage for his keynote speech. The veteran cryptocurrency coder who met Vitalik Buterin discussed how the Ethereum founder mentioned Hive and DBuzz in his book.

The veteran cryptocurrency coder Nathan Senn presented the common problems we are facing in Web2 social media and provided a solution to the issues of Web2, which is now being answered by the technology called Web3.

Nathan Senn discussed data privacy, ownership control, financial literacy, and token economics inside the Hive ecosystem. He even revealed hundreds of Decentralized Applications (DApps), tools, games, and services the Hive blockchain offers, like PeakD, Splinterlands, 3Speak, DBuzz, and many more.

After the Keynote speech of Nathan Senn, BitGet representative Jeffrey Saenz presented BitGet, discussing the transparency of centralized exchanges. According to Saenz, BitGet was launched in 2018 to provide comprehensive and secure trading options, growing a global user base with more than 8 million users, 1.1 million followers, and over 50,000 professional traders from more than 100 countries worldwide.

After the keynote speech from BitGet, Tekkon’s Crypto Pareh started his discussion by asking the Bull or Bear audience about what they can’t live without and presented Tekkon as the answer to the common problems of infrastructure development in the Philippines.

Crypto Pareh from Tekkon was followed by a presentation by Jearon Wong from CoinW as they announced their entry into the Philippine market. CoinW is not new because it started in 2017 and registered over 9 million users worldwide.

Jearon Wong emphasized in his keynote speech for the Web3 Debate the importance of being localized in the crypto exchange market as he revealed that the country manager of CoinW is Filipino and based in Cebu. As a presenter of the event, he also claimed he’s a Cebuano by heart, for he has lived in Cebu for the past few years.

Bull or Bear Debate Proper:

The Bull or Bear Debate in Cebu showcased the ideas and their sentiments to all the questions prepared by Bitskwela, the event organizer. Esteemed entrepreneurs, creatives, founders, and Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) like Dr. Donald Lim from the Philippine Blockchain Council, veteran crypto coder Nathan Senn from Hive blockchain and D.Buzz, Coach Miranda Miner from Global Miranda Miner Group, Tyrone Bretaña from Tier One Alliance, content creator Giu Comia from Tekkon, and creativepreneur Ashtley Sandoval gave their stance on Web3 adoption in the Philippines.

Bitskwela presented six statements or questions tackling the complexities of Web3 in the Philippines and worldwide as the debaters shared their knowledge in assessing various viewpoints. The audience also joined the conversation after topics by voting on what side they would be siding with, whether they were bullish or bearish.

The first Web3 Debate prompt says, “Web3 makes it easier to commit malicious activities such as theft, fraud, and hacking.” DITO Telecom COO Dr. Donald Lim represented the Bullish side, while Giu Comia from Tekkon represented the Bearish side. Poll resulted in 55% for Bullish and 45% for the Bearish.

The Second debate prompt says, “Web3 play-to-earn gaming is a passing fad.” Coach Miranda Miner took the stage representing the Bullish side, while Tier One Alliance head Tyrone Bretana represented the Bearish side. The audience who voted through a poll favored the Bullish side with 53%, while only 47% sided with the Bearish side.

Debate prompt No. 3 says, “Cryptocurrencies should be used as modes of payment for goods.” Donald Lim represented the Bullish side, and Ashtley Sandoval represented the Bearish side. The Poll results were 77% for the Bullish and only 23% for the Bearish side.

Debate prompt No. 4 says, “Web3 advocates for transparency, but in doing so, it can violate privacy.” Tyrone Bretana represented the Bullish side, while Hive and DBuzz representative Nathan Senn represented the Bearish side. Poll resulted in 64% for Bullish and 36% for the Bearish.

Debate Prompt No. 5: “The government should fully regulate Web3 products and projects.” Coach Miranda Miner represented the Bullish side, while Nathan Senn represented the Bearish side. Poll results in 64% for the Bullish and 36% for the Bearish side.

Debate Prompt No. 6: Web3 does not need to be fully decentralized. Ashtley Sandoval represented the Bullish side, and Giu Comia represented the Bearish side.

The Bull or Bear event, also known as Web3 Debate in Cebu, initiated by the Edutech platform Bitskwela, was a huge success, as the debaters took some time to meet each other and discuss future collaborations.

Several Hive users from Cebu City and the Province of Cebu traveled as far as three to four hours to support the Hive Team from DBuzz and to show their anticipation of seeing Hive in the flesh being part of the Bull or Bear Debate held at the Ayala Malls Central Bloc, in the Cebu IT Park, Cebu City.

According to Bitskwela’s CEO, Jiro Reyes, he wanted to extend his team’s appreciation for the support of Hive and DBuzz for the past three Bull or Bear events, especially the last one, the Web3 Debate in Cebu. It is indeed a huge success, and the Bitskwela CEO reported that they’ve exceeded their Key Performance Indicators for attendees and foot traffic.

The Bull or Bear event was moderated by an energetic and lively host, Miss Kish Morales, showcasing how to handle an event professionally without dull moments.
